Lissa Rankin is
pleased to announce her upcoming book about encaustic painting
technique, which will be published by Sterling Publishing
in 2009. By interviewing dozens of artists who work with
wax, in studio visits across the country, Rankin has compiled
a manual of techniques based on how artists are interpreting
the use of wax in the world of fine art. With step-by-step
instructions and detailed photographs of the artists at
work, the book will help artists master the medium, while
profiling the art of prominent painters, sculptors, installation
artists, printmakers, and photographers who use wax as part
of their process. The book includes sections on the basics
of encaustic, creating and embellishing smooth surfaces,
building textured surfaces, working reductively, sculptural
techniques, encaustic monotype, installation work utilizing
wax, and combining wax with photography, printmaking, wood-working,
textile art, and ceramic techniques.
Interviews are ongoing, but artists who have agreed to contribute
techniques and/or art to this book project include Natalie
Abrams, Tracey Adams, Jhina Alvarado, Ed Angell, Nancy Azara,
Kim Bernard, Miles Conrad, Kris Cox, Michael David, Christel
